Little Portesberries (Little P's)

We are a warm friendly group of parents and professionals, that welcome you warmly to our group, without judgement. Come along and you will find friendship and support.
We are a no referrals, no county boundaries, no waiting list, no commitment group- we just want you to turn up, have a cup of tea and have a good time.
You will find us at Mychett Community Centre, term time, Fridays 10-12. Always check with the school first to double check we are running.
This is what our parents say,
'I came here alone, isolated and scared for the future. I was so anxious coming. I left with friends, knowledge and hope’
'I found my tribe'
'Thank you to everyone at Little P's for the support I have received'
What do we do?
We are a stay and play for families who have a child they may think is not developing in the way they would expect.
We have lots of activities set up; from play-doh, puzzles, cars, farms, climbing, bouncing, messy play and all sorts. Once we get to know your child we can tailor it to suit what they like.
We have 2 rooms- one big hall, perfect for letting off some energy and plenty of space for everyone and then a smaller room (still quite big) which we have as a sensory room with lights and sensory toys.
The morning runs like this (ish!)
10-10.50am- children play, parents meet new friends and Clare, Michelle, Catherine and Amanda chat with you and find out what support you need or find out how your week has been.
10.50-11.05- Snack time- here we teach children how to ask for motivating snacks using PECS (if appropriate). Otherwise, we just eat chocolate fingers and quavers!
11.05-11.30- Tidy up time, Bubbles, Song Time and Parachute (this all takes place in the little room)
We also love to celebrate achievements and birthdays with you, so remember to share your news or bring in a cake for your little ones birthday.

What support is there?
Little Portesberries is run by Clare Walker (Deputy Head Teacher at Portesbery School) Michelle, Catherine and Amanda (Early Years Support Service). Sometimes their team manager Lisa comes too. We set up Little P's together back in 2016.
We can help with advice around eating, sleeping, toilet training, behaviour, sensory needs and communication. We can help navigate the process of DLA forms and EHCP's and all the other confusing acronyms that are thrown your way.
We can help you access different levels of support depending on what you need.
Other parents are a great support and a fountain of knowledge and advice. Occasionally ex parents come back to support- we never like to say goodbye and their support as they walk further down the road of SEN is invaluable.
Sometimes we have other professionals come from SEES, Portage, Health Visitors, SALT and many more.
We currently have an amazing volunteer Emma Clee, who is an independent OT.

Catherine, Natasha Knight, Clare and Michelle
We would also like to say a huge 'Thank you' to The Knights Foundation for their continued support.
Who can come?
If you believe your child is delayed in their development, come along. Your child does not need a diagnosis to come.
Siblings under 5 are welcome. Grandparents welcome! We really do not mind where you live!
All the parents that come have a shared understanding about the needs of all the youngsters so you will find no judgements, just support.
A great way for siblings to build memories.
How Much?
We ask for a contribution of £2 per family (happy to accept more or less- depends entirely on you).
The Knights Foundation kindly help us with costs of hall and some resources. We ask for help with drinks and resources so we can keep the activities fun and replenish the sand, play-doh and coffee for parents

We have a student from school who makes the teas/coffees for their work experience.
Do I Need to Book?
No - you can just turn up! Every Friday term time .
No commitment necessary. It doesn't matter if you turn up late or leave early.
